In the last class, Morgan presented about overfishing taken place all over the world oceans. He showed the class that many fishermen have fished by the way to destroy whole ocean ecosystem not only specific species. Specifically, the bluefin tuna is thought to be extinct in 3~6 years. The bluefin tuna’s extinction may affect the marine food chain, the employment, and it also can cause starvation and monetary problems. And he suggested some solutions to stop overfishing such as fish farming, sustainable fishing. Among them, I think sustainable fishing methods are the most essential thing. There are a couple of reasons why.
First of all, sustainable fishing makes the ocean ecosystem stable. Even people fish by trolling on a large scale, it doesn’t destroy any other organisms like coral, seaweeds, and whole habitats. In addition, since it doesn't destroy any parts of marine food chain, the cycle can still work.
On top of that, sustainable fishing doesn’t hurt fishing industry in the long run. In specific, some fishermen who have overfished can lose some of their incomes in the short-term. But if they keep overfishing, someday they will lose their own job. However, sustainable fishing can make them work in the fishing industry.
However, to make fishermen do sustainable fishing, it requires for many people to pay attention on it. For example, the authorities have make regulations to ban overfishing, give some advantages to fishermen who fish through good ways. Also, consumers should choose fish which has eco-friendly logo.
I'm sad about bluefin tuna will be extinct.
